LICENSURE
Ruth is a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker in Kansas and Missouri, as well as a Certified Marriage and Family therapist.

BACKGROUND
Ruth received her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Kansas in 1993. She has been working full time as a Christian therapist since 1993, obtaining clinical licensure in 1995. Her postgraduate Family Systems training was done at the Family Institute in Kansas City, Missouri, 1993 to 1995.

She attended the Counseling Enrichment Program at Focus on the Family in 1996, and took Advanced Theophostic training in 1996.

Ruth completed a 32 Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Externship at Indiana Wesleyan University in 2007. EFT is one of two empirically validated modes of couples therapy. She loves the challenge of seeing couples of all ages break out of old repeated destuctive cycles and experience saftey and connectedness once again. Whether you have never been to a marriage therapist or have been to numerous counselors, Ruth's belief is that no marriage is hopeless.

Ruth is a member of CAPS (Christian Association for Psychological Studies), where she previously served as a regional board member. She is also a member of AACC (American Association of Christian Counselors) and NASW (National Association of Social Workers).

AREAS OF INTEREST
Ruth specializes in marriage and family issues, anxiety, depression, sex abuse recovery, grief and loss, women's issues, anger management, premarital preparation. An area of special interest to Ruth is inner healing for past wounds and hurts. She works with individuals, couples, and families.

PROCESS
Utilizing sound psychological principles, Ruth works from a family systems approach. She incorporates these with strengths-based, cognitive-behavioral techniques. When desired by the client, Ruth works from a Christian perspective (utilizing scripture and working from a prayer based perspective). Her professional mission is to facilitate healing to the hurting through reconciliation with God, self, and others.

Counseling and psychotherapy require a great deal of participation and cooperation from the client. The effort put forth by the client is important in determining the amount of benefit gained from therapy. Much of what occurs in therapy is dialogue. The client is expected to relate not only problems and concerns, but successes, strengths and enjoyable experiences as well. At times homework assignments such as reading, keeping a journal, monitoring behavior, and practicing new behavior may be requested of the client.
